HONOUR BOARDS

Wooden award plaque listing Jim Garrigan Trophy junior winners from 1997 to 2026.

JIM GARRIGAN TROPHY

Jim Garrigan came to the Club in the 1959-60 season from Kalgoorlie.  Jim captained the third grade team for four years from 1960-61 until 1963-64, with the team being premiers in 1963-64.  Jim was a popular captain and the day following the premiership win, Jim left for England.  After living away from Tasmania for many years Jim became reunited with New Town when his son Andrew played in the vacation competition for schoolboys in the early eighties.

Following his return to the Club he attended the TCA coaching program and became an accredited Level 2 coach.

He was the Club's Junior Development Officer for 15 years where he provided sterling service and was well respected by the players and their parents.

The Junior Encouragement Award was named after him in 2001-02.

Jim also served on the general committee for several years.   He had also been the Club coach (1988-89) and a selector.

He won the Oxley Clubman Award in 1990.

He was made a Life Member in 1997.

Jim was also the Club delegate to the {TCA} Cricket Tasmania until the dissolution of the *Pennant Committee in 2003-04.  Jim left the New Town Committee in 2005.

*Prior to 2003-04 the clubs conducted their own competitions.  The Pennant Committee was made up of a delegate from each club and was chaired by an elected member of the TCA.
